This post is part of the “Blogging from A-Z April Challenge”! The “D” themed inspiration for today is “devotion.” Enjoy!
On the shore there is a tree
That bends its arms to catch the sea.
Through the driest summer days
When branches droop, and green leaves fade
It twists towards the silenced waves
As winter screams through frozen caves.
And in bright day
And burnt black night
Though fevered blue tides
Crash and bite
It grows towards the deafening deep
As sea breeze spits, and whitecaps weep.
Its devotion plain, and rare, and right
While mine is twisted, rushed, contrite.
For I soak in, and flood the shore
And seep back, bitter, seeking more
Then recede, with change of heart
And off to distant coasts depart
Get lost in whirlpools of my mind
But still I know I’ll always find
That on the shore there is a tree
Your arms outstretched, to welcome me.
